    Review of human biology and pathophysiology of  the nervous system

    • Learning Outcome:

      At the end of the session, students will be able to:

      • outline the organisation of the nervous system.
      • describe the structure of a neuron.
      • describe how an impulse is conducted across a synapse.
      • describe the structure and function of the brain.
      • list the twelve (12) cranial nerves and state their functions.
      • describe the structure of a spinal nerve. 
      • distinguish between the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions  of the autonomous nervous systems in terms of structure, function and neurotransmitters involved.
      • distinguish between the somatosensory and somatomotor systems in terms of structure and function.
      • list the five (5) basic components of a reflex arc.
